Banish Insomnia with this Fruit: The Kiwi Hack You Need
- Sep 14, 2025
Ever had a sleepless night and wished there was a simple and natural remedy near at hand, like maybe hiding in your fruit bowl? Our nocturnal aid of choice these days could be a couple of shiny, green kiwi fruits served an hour before snoozing time.
What, you might laugh? Those fuzzy, emerald orbs might be loaded with nutrition but could they really be the sleep fix you've been missing out on? Turns out, it's not as farfetched as it sounds.
Raj Dasgupta, a man of medicine and a sleep expert at Huntington Health, has waved the green flag on this fruity proposition. He bases his claims on existing studies that lean toward the positive impact of consuming kiwi before bedtime on sleep quality. “Kiwis can make a pretty effective and natural sleep supplement,” he says, though he admits that further research won't hurt.
Apparently, these cheeky fruits weave their bedtime magic in an intriguing way. All that matters is you have two of them about an hour before hitting the bed. This gives ample time for your body to work its magic with the beneficial nutrients, potentially escalating your serotonin levels. Serotonin, often styled as the 'happiness hormone', might just set you in the right mood for a solid snooze.
However, if you have an allergy to latex or fruits, tread with caution, warns Dasgupta. Also, sweet fruit as it is, kiwis come with sugar, so do a quick sugar check of your daily total before snuggling with kiwi.
The only way you can know if the cuddly kiwi indeed does a moonlight shift as a sleep aide is to sample a trial. Start off with the duo of kiwis an hour before bedtime and tune it over a few nights. Give it a go and let us know if kiwi is the real deal or just another hyped-up bedfellow.
